Is there any way to determine were a leak in my roof is coming from without paying someone to come and tell me the obvious? The leak is occurring in a corner where two roofs meet. Where do I begin? Any thoughts?

Sounds as if the leak is in the valley, is your roof asphalt comp or shake?

Either way first check to make sure that there is nothing built up in the valley ( Moss, Leaves, etc.)

second look for any missing or broken shingles.

Water leaks are hard to pinpoint in a roof. You can try to set up a sprinkler on the roof, start at the bottom and work your way up. if you can get into the attic, look for a trail of water.
