Just bought a house (built 1989.)

I replaced a bulb on the front porch light. Worked, kinda flickered and then seemed to short the circuit.

I've flipped the breaker, replaced the porch fixtures that seemed to cause the problem ,light bulbs and switches.

The voltage tester indicates that it's getting electricity.

But nothing turns on. What am I missing?

You didn't say what type of voltage tester you used.

If you used a non-contact voltage tester, you could read the presence of an energized conductor, but you wouldn't know if you actually had a complete circuit.

If you used a voltmeter and measured from the live wire to the equipment ground, you could detect a voltage, but again, you might not have a complete circuit.

i suspect that you have a loose or broken white wire somewhere in the circuit.
