Hi all. Many of the drywall seams on my 40 year old house are bulging. It doesn't appear like the joint tape is pulling away from the seams as when I tried to remove some of the tape, it was extremely difficult. Also, the drywall appears to be pretty firmly attached. When I press on both sides of the seam, the drywall doesn't move. Could it be that the seams always looked this way and this is the result of a poor spackling job when applying the joint tape and compound in the first place? What should I do to make these seems appear less visible? Thanks for the help.

I have same issue. New house around 3 years and we had our basement finished. I dont know if builder used substandard dry wall installers or settling has affected the walls. I will try remudding areas to make bulge less visible. Is there any point to opening seams to relieve pressure assuming panels have no gap?
