I would appreciate any help you can offer.
end grain wood tile floor
I watched a TV show some years ago (10 or so), which I think was one of Bob's. In the show they put in a floor into a renovation. The material used was old barn wood beams that were cut into end grain tiles. The effect was spectacular. I am currently renovating a barn into a residence and would like to use this technique in my bathroom and kitchen area. I have access to some 100 year old barn wood but don't know what products to use in laying the tiles. What type of adhesive would you use? What type of grout could be used on wood tiles?
I believe you are talking about the Cobble Wood floor that was seen on Bob's show.
In the "Home Again" section of this website you can view the actual video clip and get all the installation details including the sawdust grout. Scroll down to Season 1, Chicago Coach House, Episode #10.
Yes, it's called Cobble block. I've done this 4 times (last year alone) it's very time consuming and can be expensive. BUt! it is amazing looking. it has to be glued down I've seen it installed usoing cement(mortar) but I prefer adhesive.. it is very beautiful. The hardest part to this application is finding suitable lumber. so, if you have several hundred Linear footage of 8x8 timbers laying around you got the hard part taken care of already.

I want to do this in my kitchen, I have old barn beams, but don't know how to get them cut into tiles, any suggestions? I will be applying the tiles to a concrete floor, want to suggest the best adhesive and grout? My husband is willing to do this for me, but I am having trouble getting the best details, please help. Thank you!
Here's another way to accomplish the look, but using ceramic floor tile. Obtain some good, sharp photos or pictures of the end-grain and send them to a custom tile printer. These can be custom printed on 12x12 ceramic floor tile, like you see in the picture below. Possible search terms include 'custom printed tile, custom-tiles'.
