Recently, I took up the carpet in my home so that I could enjoy the original hardwood floors. However, they are considerably stained with various blotches and paint splatters. Because I will be taking on this project alone and because I like the country look of painted hardwood floors, I am considering that option, it seems it might be easier than refinishing, also. How should I begin, primer, paint, sanding (I hope not,) or what? Any words of advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated, since I am truly a novice. Thanks in advance for your input.

I would go to your local paint store and they can tell you what you need to do. I personaly would sand, primer and paint. In that order.
