I am building a new home on a pier and beam foundation. I would like wood flooring in the kitchen but I also would like to install a floor drain under the sink for "just in case". Obviously the flooring under the cabinets needs to be waterproof, probably tile. Can this be done and any suggestions?

Unless the flooring under the cabinets is exposed to view I would not put tile under them. Under the sink you might want to have a sheetmetal pan built with a drain in it. The remainder of the floor underneath the cabinets I would just leave as plywood or whatever other substrate you might be using. Obviously if the flooring is exposed a nicer finish will be required.
