I am placing a border in my bathroom using sea glass, metal wire, and other misc objects. I need to know if I can add a color base to premixed adhesive grout. The shapes that I am using are of all different levels and I think by placing these items directly into the grout will give the area a more uniform look. Is this possible, or do I have to purchase a premixed color grout which can be very expensive? Thanks for listening!

it is unusual to say the least.

Theoretically, you could us a white, latex mofified thinset and add concrete or grout stain to color it.

That said, it is a very bad idea to try to use thinset mortar as a grout because of its construction and consistency, It takes forever to dry in thick layers and tends to crack badly from of shrinkage as the water evaporates from it.

I think you would be much better off spending a little more money with a colored grout for any areas thicker than 1/2".

In summary, it may work and may not work ... I have no idea.
