My home has red oak hardwood, circa 1952 but needs help badly in two ways. some boards (2 that I can tell) need replacing as they have been comepletely chewed through by termites and secondly that there are gaps between the boards.
I can picture myself replacing a few boards and hammmering them all snug in one direction and measuring a slip of a board to install next to the wall, . . . but then I've a pretty good imagination.
I am wondering if this is a job strictly for the pros or if a regular joe might take it on without making it worse.
thanks
Personally, I think this is a job for the pros.
To replace the boards are easy enough if you are mindful to protect surrounding boards from damage during the removal and reinstallation/repair process, but have you given any thought to snading and refinishing to feather in the repair into existing, or a full refinishing that may be needed if you are not able to feather it into existing so it looks right ?
There is certainly no guarantee that a pro would fare any better, but I think a pro would have a much better chance of success from their experience.
