Problem:
One hole in pitched roof, few weak spots. Limited funds. Immediate help/repairs/roof needed.
Should I have:
1. Liquid-applied roof coatings or
2. Metal roof or
3. All new wood, asphalt shingles, etc.
Thank you.

How old is the roof?
What area of the country are you in?
Has it been previously repaired?
Is the underlayment rotted around the hole?
Are any beams damaged?
Has a roofer inspected it?

You need this roof inspected as it probably needs to be replaced as you have had multiple water intrusions over the years as well as rot. Immediately get a tarp on top of the hole to prevent further water damage as your home could "mold up" before you know it with water in the attic in the summer. Then you would have many more home repair issues to handle. In Florida there are still many homes with hurricane damage from the past few years with "temporary Tarp" roofs. Stop the water before it drives you out of the home. As for coatings, they are to be applied on top of a solid roof. But it does not sound like your roof is solid.
Money is a problem. Is there not anything that
can be done that would shore things up for a few years? (Liquid roofing, metal roofing
with furring strips applied, etc.)
I do appreciate your advice and time. Thanks.
