my kenmore sears stackable dryer model no 41799812990 is acting up. it started in the middle of drying it would just stop. and after letting it rest for a while you could turn it back on. now i was drying jeans for a while and started smelling burning so i turned it off and now i dont have to use the on/off button to start it, as soon as i turn the timer button it comes on but only for a few minutes. we thought it was the timer motor and replaced that but its doing the same thing. any help? you guys was soo good when my drum needed replaceing. my husband did it for under 150 dollars and the repair man had told us to get rid of it.

** kenmore [laundry center] model no 417.99812990 **
That model was made for Sears by Frigidaire.

That is a common symptom of the motor overheating and cutting out on its internal overload protector until it has a chance to cool.
The motor could be plugged with dust and lint, etc. blocking its cooling ports, there could be too much strain on the motor trying to turn the drum or most often, a problem in the motor itself requiring replacement.

** now i dont have to use the on/off button to start it **
That could be caused by 'shorted' start switch contacts or a problem in the centrifugal switch on the motor. If the latter was defective the whole motor would also usually have to be replaced to correct the condition as motor switches aren't usually available separately.
