have never used them.. how do you use and
what is the difference is sizes is it similar
to the use of wood studs... how do you connect them to joists and each other??

Glad you asked! Steel studs are great to work with. They come is sizes similar to wood studs - 2x4 and 2x2. The studs fit into tracks called C-Channels.
You need two sizes of drywall screws - 7/16 panhead to attach studs to the track
and 1-1/4" to attach wood and drywall to the steel.
The tracks are screwed into the joists using 1 1/2" drywall screws. The bottom track is glued and nailed to the concrete floor. Use a power driver - uses .22 caliber to drive special nails. I borrowed one but Lowes has them for about $30. The alternative is to drill a hole thru track and floor and drive two 16 penny nails ito the hole.
Then insert the stud and twist to get into tracks. One 7/16" screw at top and one at bottom and that stud is in place.
Cut the studs with aviator snips and/or a metal cutting blade in your saw.
I framed my basement in half the time and 2/3 the cost of wood studs.
