I'm using steel studs to finish my basement. I'm having problems getting the self-tapping screws to self-tap. Frequently they penetrate the track and then refuse to bite into the stud behind. I'm using a variable speed drill to drive. If I add more weight behind the drill, the stud just flexes. Any suggestions short of pre-drilling or spending a couple hundred on a hammer drill?
