I bought a home that has been vacant for 9 months. The owners left 10 cats there that used the rugs as a litter box (also cat spray on the walls.) It's so bad, that we pulled out the (very nasty) rugs and padding but the urine has gone into the sub flooring. I bought Natures Miracle, applied to coats. Still stinky. I was thinking of applying a coat of Binz Primer to walls and sub flooring then applying two coats of Kilz Original, then pain and put down rug and hard wood floors in kitchen. Can anyone tell me what I should or could use, oil based, latex, what goes on first and will keep the smell away so I can actually move in!I can't afford to put down new sub flooring. Please help!

two things for you...

in the concrete I used a solution from Stinkypets.com -- basically hydrogen perxiod and baking soda -- I had to do 2 applications but it worked. Also when I painted I used a ole wives tale solution of 1T vanilla to 1 Gallon of paint, this removes pet, smoke, grease, etc odors.

I had a similar situation with my house, the previous owners were dog lovers and took in strays. The carpets were ruined and soaked into the subfloors. I sprayed a healthy coat of Kilz water based primer over all the floors before putting in hardwood flooring. Took care of the smells and stains.

I have read all the answers to rixiegirl's cat urine problem hoping to see the answer to my question, but no luck so far. My cat (no longer with us) repeatedly urinated in one corner of the living room. I removed carpet and pad from the area and treated subfloor with Nature's Miracle, let it dry, and then straight Clorox. I am going to use BIN and paint the area, but I can't get the subfloor to dry! Everyday I keep a fan on the area and at night it seems dry, then, in the morning, the area is wet and sticky again! This has been for over a week! Any ideas?
