Hey all, new guy here. Sure to be a frequent poster/reader as I am getting into my first home.
Speaking of which...
The house is a small tudor (app 1000 sq ft) and has two small bedrooms on the ground level (app 10x10 each), which, obviously, will not fit a king size bed. Therefore, the wife and I are contemplating turning the finished basement into a bedroom suite.
I wanted to ask all you seasoned vets on here any foreseeable problems with doing so.
I have already considered the following problems: moisture, spiders, mice, lack of egress, and would love suggestions on how to remedy these.
Are there any other problems I should consider with making a basement into a permanent master bedroom?
Thanks in advance.
Basements in old homes were not designed to be living space. Since my business involves mold issues, almost every week I am called to inspect a converted basement.
Also, I can't imagine a less romantic place than a basement for a master bedroom. You are better off knocking down walls between two rooms to create one larger room and adding a spare bedroom to the basement....which I still do not recommend.
Basement - low ceiling, poor lighting and poor air quality.
How about adding a dormer in the attic?
