Does ANSI or WDMA or another regulating association have a minimum/maximum/standard height requirements for doorknobs? If so, where can I find this information? I need to document this as I have just received a door that's knob would sit on the door at 4'0" from the bottom. I am concerned the distributor and manufacturer will claim that the height is within normal limits. All my other doors are 3'0" from the bottom.
Is this a door 'slab'?
If so, you may simply have the door oriented upside down.
Since a typical 6'8" (80")door slab pre-bored will have the door knob hole at 36" from the bottom side up and 46" from the top side down.
And if this door is meant to fit an opening of other than an 80" slab height or an older than a 50-60 year old house...it may be considered to be completley 'normal'....
More information would be helpful.

The door knob would sit at approximately 4'0 from the ground.
This is a 36" wide x 94" tall decorative wood entry door that is not a 'slab' - it has panels and glazing in specific areas. The mortise opening's center is 47" from the bottom (or top) of the door. The distributor checked it out today and said that they will come tomorrow to take back the door and credit my charge card for the full amount. They told me that the hole was to be drilled at 57" from the top and that the manufacturer made an error.
Thanks for the reply.

Glad you worked it out but what you have is neither a standard door nor a standard door knob height. :)
But it sounds like a lovely entry way....and one to be envied.

Thank you for your input. They took back the doors yesterday and refunded my costs.
I am looking for a new set of doors from other manufacturers - but I've yet to choose one. The doors I returned were made by IWP and were veneered. Some manufactures claim solid wood is better while others say veneered is better (for avoiding warping and cracking). What do you think? Any suggestions of manufactures for wood entry doors - mid to high end would be appreciated.
