11 days without electricity and sump pump failure resulted in a foot of water in our 35 year old newly renovated basement. We are in the process of ripping out bamboo flooring, sub flooring, studs and 2 feet of Sheetrock due to moisture and mold. We have installed an industrial battery operated dehumidifier and a sump pump. We have found a crack in the concrete wall. We cannot approach the problem from outside as it would be too costly; landscaping established etc. A black tar was applied years ago and my husband recalls a perimeter drain at that time. What is the best solution to eliminate mold and moisture, fix the crack , and lay down a floor that would resist moisture? We plan to use this room as a recreation room and extra bedroom.
