3 weeks ago we enclosed our screened porch to a 3 seasons room. We were told by the contractor that the silicone sealant smell would take 4-6 days to disappear and to leave all the windows open and the fan on as long as we could. it's been three weeks and the smell is just as strong as it was on day 3. The room isn't climate controlled but we have used box fans, ocilating fans and the ceiling fans as well as left most of the windows open. Because it is winter, we have had a few cold and wet days but we have had just as many unseasonably warm and windy days. It does not smell like vinegar it smells more chemical. When the fans are on and the windows are open you can only smell it faintly but as an experiment I closed the windows and it took less than an hour for the fumes to build up again. The caulk feels tacky but I wasn't for sure if this is how silicone caulk feels. I am worried it is not curing. I am going to speak to the saleman tomorrow but wanted to see if I could get some insight on this first. Thank you.
