Craftsman Belt Sander Model No. 315.11721
I recently inherited a Craftsman Belt Sander Model No. 315.11721, and I went to use it today but realized that the belt needed changed. Only one problem, I can't figure out how to change the belt. I wasn't given a book with the sander, and was wondering if anyone can help me and tell me how to do it. It's a pretty old sander, but it works fine.
I'm in the same situation needing a manual for a Craftsman Belt Sander Model No. 315.11721. Could you email me a copy at nwlaptop@aol.com? Thanks.

On your model belt sander, all you do is push the front roller against a solid surface. The roller will lock in place. Change belt and then use a large screw driver and pry just below the name plate. This will snap the roller back in place. You may have to track belt. This is done by turning large screw on the side of sander. Hope this helps. By the way, I am looking for a used one just like yours for parts. I broke a gear and they do not make the part anymore. If you know where I can find one you can email me at denniscindyfoley@yahoo.com
I saw where you have a manual for a Sears 315.11721 Belt Sander. I'm having difficulty releasing the spring loaded roller lock (for changing the belt). Could you please email the manual to me also.

Hi,
If you ever got a copy of the belt sander manual, could you please forward it to me at drzlara@hotmail.com.
Thanks, Leslie
By the way, everyone's suggestions have helped. All I need now is to figure out how to "track" the belt.

Wowery, smowery, you're a popular dude! :)
I, too, hope you're still around, and could have a copy of your manual, too!
Actually, I have a 4" model (#315-11782), but this one sounds very similar.
I, too, have great difficulty in bringing back the wheel. In fact, right now it's sitting under my bench, seemly "permanently" retracted. It shouldn't be this hard, should it?
Thank you muchly!!

Funny that I came here through a search on a way to work the belt adjustment in order to remove and install a belt. I took me a good hour to figure out how to get slack via the front roller when removing a belt. For this, hold the unit as you would while working. Point the nose to the floor and apply pressure. The roller retracts and stays in place. Then, to re-extend the front roller; you lay the unit on the floor (belt down/handle up). Roll the unit to the right 45 degrees, tilt the unit forward until the roller contacts the floor. Apply slight downward pressure (unit still tilted forward at at the same angle) and the front roller pops back into place. That part took quite a bit longer to figure..
Hi, minigts,
If you mean the sandpaper belt, any hardware or home improvement store should have it. Bring your old one!
I'll also email you a copy of the manual, as requested.

I guess they don't make them like they used to as this old work horse seems to be going strong all over the place. I, too, have inherited one (315.11721) and would be grateful for a copy of the manual.

Hello Paul, I recently acquired this Craftsman model 315.22420 belt sander and would love to have a copy of the manual. Could you please email me one at actionjksn@gmail.com
Also if you have a manual for another old Craftsman sander model 315.25811 that would be great too. I need to find out how to lubricate both of these sanders. But the belt sander is the most important.
Thanks,

Thanks,
On my unit after replacing the belt I can take up slack by pressing a release button that is located on the center line of the rollers about mid ship.
7+ years after your post, and I'm still looking for the manual for the craftsman belt sander.

I have used this belt sander for years and never had a problem changing the sanding belt. Now, however, it won't stay in a locked position when I push down on it. Can anyone tell me where the locking mechanism for this sander is located?
So I just started using this old sander I inherited from my father, works great, but need brushes. Anyone know of a source for parts? We did figure out how to change the belts, I just loosened it as much as it would go and wiggled the belt on, then tightened it up.

If the screw driver under the name plate doesn't work, hit the side of the bottom plate lightly with a hammer
