Hi,

I was wondering--are there any rules/recommendations on minimum distance a branch supply line has to be from the main water supply entrance to a home--basically, how close can a branch line be from the water meter?

Thanks,
Kelly

You can tee off anywhere after the meter, but no tee's are allowed before the meter. The 1st tee is usually to an outside hose bibb. Minimum size for a potable water service is 3/4". The next tee, usually feeds the closest fixture, boiler, etc. in the basement. If your water line is 3/4", make sure you use that same size tee. You can reduce the size of the branch line. Example: cold feed for an outside hose bibb=3/4" x 3/4" x 1/2" tee.
