We have large cast iron radiators in two zones. We demolished one part of the house which took out all but one radiator in one zone. Now the plumber wants to have the new addition with radiant heat include the "orphan" cast iron radiator. Is this a good idea?

Your radiant heat would probably satisfy the thermostat (turning off the heat) before the cast iron radiator got hot enough to give off enough heat. You could always control the cast iron radiator with it's own t-stat and zone valve, that's what I would do.
