when in combustion mode, downdraft furnace atop a trane air conditioning evaporator started rumbling/vibrating with this heating season. in startup mode (only combustion vent fan running), no vibration - blower nice and smooth; in shutdown mode (only circulation fan running), no vibration - fan rolls forever, perfectly smooth with zero noise. no dirt on furnace or a/c heat exchangers, and bypassing a/c heat exch by removal of front plate made no change. removal of burner cavity cover stopped vibration in combustion mode. normal exhaust from combustion air circuit.
all bafflers inside furnace and a/c evaporator in place and immobile.
baffled!
