Central AC unit and blower will not turn on
My Lennox HS29-036-2P Condensing unit will not turn on and neither will the blower. I have 220V at the contactor but no 24v. I changed the Thermostat-no help. I have 63 ohms of resistance through the 2 wires on the back of the Tstat but I don't know what the path is as it appears to go to the blower first. I thought the "on position" on the Tstat powered the blower continuously with a straight run but it does nothing either. Any help would be great. To add,when I went in the attic (first time) the pan under the blower unit was full of water. Not draining?
3 replies from the "experts" but only sarcasm to offer,not knowledge. I'm no HVAC guy and did not know the 24V was stepped down line voltage and c/b protected at the air handler til a few minutes ago which also prevented the pump from draining the pan. All fixed and a little wiser to come back here again. Pitiful.
Fact 1. 24VAC frying a circuit? C'mon. A Fluke electronic multimeter frying a circuit ?,Cmon.It's not a megger. Fact 2. I changed the Tstat because I did not know about the 24VAC controlling voltage til after i looked at the WD. Fact 3. I knew I could use the old programmable Tstat in another zone if I was wrong (I was and I did).Fact 4 It was installed by a Lennox Professional and I'll look into the no draining issue. Fact 5.I got no help here,only sarcasm. The Forum was worthless to me. Fact 6. Big words? Insults? Gimme a break.
3 days running and I found what opened the circuit and fixed it. 24VAC might fry a solid state circuit or a branch indicator,warning or LED circuit or the programmable Tstat. I've been working electric/electronic circuits for 21 years using multimeters,scopes,meggers,TDRs and cable testers. I have a B.S in Avionics. I'm embarrassed to say I did not know that the controlling 24VAC was line step down voltage. It was 88 in the house when the wife called me at work. I stopped and bought a TStat with no knowledge of the circuit and installed it,knowing I was going to upgrade all 3 zones anyway. $43 for a part I was going to upgrade anyway versus a $110 service diagnostic call seemed wiser. I posted here,including make and model and what I had done and got what? I called the Lennox installer (Boston HVAC) and he said that the pans are not gravity drained and that it is an emergency reservoir in the event of a clogged pump outlet or failure protected by a float switch. Whatever the case,it's fixed. I did my best and eventually it was good enough.
