I have a home with plaster and lathe walls and I want to replace the electric (knob and tube) and have new, smooth, crack-free walls. Do I go through the mess of tearing all the lathe and plaster off or just cover it with wallboard? I have had advise from people to do one or the other, what do you think?

If you are planning on replacing the old wiring, it would probably be best to remove the old plaster, run new wiring and then cover with new drywall.
I am including a couple of links below for removing the plaster,

Good luck
