I have a car port that I want to convert into a bedroom. The car port has stucco walls on 3 sides and a stucco ceiling. All I think I need to do is add a fourth wall, a couple of windows and a door. My question is whether I need to rip out the stucco and replace it with drywall or if I can simply skim coat the walls with plaster. Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of each approach? Thanks.

wash the stucco with TSP and rinse it well. Then a bonding agent and overcoat with finish plaster.

But there could be other issues depending on your climate. Undoubtably, theses walls were not insulated and adding heat to this room could impact the rest of the house in several ways.
