Our 1940s bathroom has some really nice small 1-inch black and white tile (you have all seen this stuff) on the floor. The entire bathroom for some reason has been raised about 1 inch from the rest of the house via cement (I can tell by the threshold from the wooden hallway into the bathroom. The tile is in VERY tightly, no cracks or bows in the floor (I guess the reason for the cement?) however it’s time to redo it. It really seems silly to pull up the old floor as it’s in great condition. We wanted to save some cash so we were thinking of just putting down vinyl but I have been feeling quite under challenged lately so I think I might give tiling a try. Do I need to pull up the old floor or can I just tile right over it?
