wood siding buckling from???
Hello I am restoring a house that was built in 1910. It's a balloon frame house with clapboard "wood" siding directly over the studs (no sheathing). The house has been gutted for some time now and I just noticed today a section of the house where two runs of siding have busted open from the pressure. After further looking I noticed a majority of the siding around this area is buckling from the joints being so tight. I also noticed what seems to be mold growing at these joints. I live in Florida so we have just experienced our 2nd hurricane so could this be from the extreme moisture and the wood expanding. I looked at the foundation and it is not that. I'm in the middle of caulking all the siding joints right now, is this going to happen again?? Any advice?
