is it ok to install mexican saltillo pavers directly on top of linoleum? or should i put backerboard down on top of the linoleum? or should i remove the linoleum and then put down backerboard? also, the linoleum is not seamless. there are patches that have come apart at the seams and the wood subfloor can be seen through the seams. if it is ok to tile over the linoleum, is it necessary to cover up the seams with something first?

if you can take the heighth, then put backerboard down on the vinyl.

I would remove vinyl and underlay in one swoop, then install new backerboard.

do not install on lino directly.
