Hi,

I have a smooth, flat rubber roof (~3yrs old) that has a drain in the center of it. Water appears to be leaking in around the drain. I would like to reseal the area around the drain. What type of caulking would be ideal for this rubber roof?

100% silicone? I went to HD but couldn't find anything specifically for rubber roofs. They had window/door, tub/tile, asphalt. Suggestions? Thanks.

If your roof is only 3 years old, I assume that you have a warranty. Be very careful about using any caulk that is not expressly approved in the warranty. This also goes for installing other accessories, flashings, sealants, patches, or equipment. Otherwise the warranty will likely be voided even for other defects which seemingly have nothing to do with the use of the caulk. Contact the installer or manufacturer for approved caulks.

There is a caulk called lap sealant that is used for seams and around protrusions....I dont think homedepot carries it...******* does or the local roofing supply house that sells epdm roofing does.

good luck, if I can be of any more help my email is leeyohe322 at cs.com

Thanks...lap sealant (by Carlisle) is what I actually ended up going with. You were correct that HD does not carry it. I found some at a local roofing supply warehouse (they were also a good source for advice). Supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'll find out how good of a job I did. :)

Rubex MS is a premium, innovative product that represents the next generation of sealant technology. Rubex MS does not contain any solvents or isocyanates. It exhibits excellent adhesion to many substrates, including: aluminum, brass, steel, glass, granite, marble, wood, and most plastics. Rubex MS conforms to most of the quality requirements. Rubex caulk through independent testing as proven itself to outperform Butyl, acrylic or Latex caulks on an application of Liquid EPDM Rubber.
