hello everyone,

the disaster of disasters has happened for this amateur DIY'er, who hates DIY. She was cursed with a brown and green tile in her bathroom and decided to paint the tile, including the floor, black.

So off she goes to the store whereby she was given a latex-based paint by the shopowners daughter. Upon application of the paint she was delighted with the results (looks like a cool black brick now) however became suspicious at the ease of which the paint came off her brushes during cleanup.

Being an inquisitive type of person, this DIY'er then went off to the internet to investigate the types of paint on the market, where to use what and so on. The implications of this disaster are now apparent.

The situation is as follows: The walls and floor are now painted with this latex paint, which will probably run off with every shower, or peel over time. I could use a scraper and scrape it all off, but it will probably remain in the grout area.

(In retrospect, those brown and green tiles weren't so bad after all!).

Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm very broke I should mention, and live in Athens Greece. I need to find a solution to this fast, because if I'm not able to shower I'll probably lose my job and all my friends and this whole DIY experience was traumatizing enough.

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

what if I just apply a few coats of acrylic finish? will that do the trick?

I'm only planning on staying in this place another two years, so a short term solution is ok.

yes ... dont paint tile.

if you want a different look, remove the tile and install new tile more to your liking.

if you must paint it, scarify it thoroughly with sandpaper to rough it up and use an oil based paint for a wet area.

thanks for the info.

since I already used the latex paint, can't I just seal it with acrylic?

I have no idea. I cant give advice on that. It might work and it might not. It might last for years and it might not.
