Asphalt tar paper as subfloor
We are building a house on top of a basement we have lived in for five years. On that basement, we rolled asphalt tar paper roofing with tar to seal the roof. Now that roof is our subfloor and it is not even. The tar paper did not roll on flat and has bumps in it that we must fix before putting on flooring. We looked at self-leveling compound, but it seemed we would need a lot of it to get the job done, if it even worked. Our house is 35x50 and we want laminate and carpet flooring. If we remove the tar paper, there would be a mess with the tar underneath that was used to stick the roofing. What else could we do?
