Founded in 1929 as an HVAC manufacturer and distributor, Heil supplied products to Sears until 1957 when the two companies partnered to purchase the Florence Stove Company’s line of Quaker space heaters and a Lewisburg, Tennessee, manufacturing plant. Sears decided to sell the new Heil-Quaker company to Whirlpool in 1964, and the company was purchased again in 1986 by the current owner, International Comfort Products, though, at the time, it was known as the Inter-City Gas Corporation.

Daikin takes advantage of its huge manufacturing capability to produce affordable furnaces that offer long-term reliability based on heavy-duty stainless steel heat exchangers. This durability is reflected in a longer warranty than what many competitors offer. Variable-speed models have been awarded Energy Star’s “Most Efficient 2023” award. We also heard from several professional installers that Daikin’s customer service is particularly good.

The company’s residential furnaces regularly feature in independent reviews and are highly rated for their durability. Units are relatively compact, so there’s plenty of flexibility in terms of installation, and much of the range is very affordable. Many also offer excellent efficiency, though some of the entry-level models don’t meet Energy Star standards.

The company was created in 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, as a division of Lennox and originally called Armstrong Furnaces. We weren’t able to find when the name changed to Armstrong Air, but the name better reflects the company’s extensive range of cooling and heating products. Currently, manufacturing takes place in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Armstrong Air is keen to promote environmental practices. Most factory vehicles are electric, and recycled materials are widely used. Computer-controlled equipment helps ensure high-quality control standards, and Armstrong Air furnaces are renowned for their reliability. Most are Energy Star rated for high efficiency, and several are self-modulating. Along with providing consistent heat output levels, they also reduce internal temperature fluctuations to extend the life of the core heat exchanger.
15. Coleman
Known for: Coleman furnaces have a reputation for rugged dependability at affordable prices, although they are perhaps not as advanced as some.

The Coleman brand dates back to 1901 in Wichita, Kansas, when William Coffin Coleman began selling the gas lamps that still appear on the company logo. While the product ranges are different, they are made in the same factory in Texas.
Coleman furnaces have long been known for their solid build and durability. Customer support is also highly rated. Historically they have been considered somewhat basic, but top-of-the-range models can now be linked to smart thermostats. Not only are Coleman furnaces very affordable, but they are also consistently among the cheapest when it comes to installation costs.

It was resurrected in 2009 by International Comfort Products Corporation, which is owned by Carrier, though there are few similarities in terms of specification.
Day & Night produces three furnace ranges: The Performance Series focuses on affordability; the QuietComfort Series is a good balance between price and efficiency; and the Ion Series features advanced energy-saving systems and Wi-Fi capability for remote monitoring and adjustment. High-tech manufacturing processes help ensure consistent reliability, and prices for many of the furnaces are very competitive. However, the company’s smart models are among the most expensive of those we researched.
