I have a dirt area in the back of my house that had concreat blocks that deterated. It is now cleaned out. I need to put some sort of padio there. Any idear what woul be good it is a 20 x 25 area in the shade. I was thinking of putting down land scape fabric 4" gravel and slate on top. Would this hold up? Or will weeds just grow in it. I dont' really want to get into concreat back there. It is not an area I really use.

I built my patio last year. I read that you should lay down a 2" bed of gravel or paver base, then a bed of builders sand another 2-4". Level this off by scraping over the sand with a board that has a level on top. Then you can lay down pavers, slate or whatever. Fill the cracks with sand, pebbles or whatever. Then lay a 2x4 over the boards and tap the board with a rubber mallet to set the stones and the filler material down level.

And I almost forgot ... put a layer of breathable landscape fabric between the sand and the stones.
