We recently moved into our current house, well...come to find out the front yard is full of rocks! We are talking at least 6 inches of rock. We have been trying to dig them up. Does anyone have any advice here? Are we okay leaving them in and topping the entire front yard with 6 - 12 inches of new dirt? I appreciate any and all feed back you(s) may have.

Thanking you in advance,
Evie

Hi beradel,

The rocks are fine as long as you don't need to run water lines or electrical lines or the like. Other than that, cover and level the lawn w/about 4" of topsoil. Then, roll it out because it won't pack evenly due to the rocks. YOu can then 'knock' out the high spots or fill in the low spots, or both, as you make your lawn level. (Actually, a slight slope of the lawn is best!) You should be sure to use a roll after you put down the topsoil before you seed.

After you've done the dirty work, consider HydroSeeding. Sod is expensive and growing grass by hand does require a committment of time.

My best to ya and hope this helps.
