My front door is made by stanley. It has 2 windows at the top, each about 4x4inches. The previous owner installed a glass storm door. At some point the heat built up between the doors so much that it warped and melted the plastic trim around the 2 windows at the top. My question is, can I replace this trim, or do I have to replace the entire door? There are 4 screws holding the trim on the inside of the door. I have been all over the web and cannot find any site that addresses this subject or sells trim pieces. Would it be unsafe to use wood trim?

There should be a manufacturer's plate there giving the info on the door. Then call stanley and ask them for a replacement window trim kit for your door. Since you aren't the original purchaser they most likely will charge you for this.

The problem you describe is common with pvc type mouldings in high-heat southern exposure situations. They may even offer a retro-kit from wood.

The most important thing I can offer you is that when you re-install mouldings be sure to caulk well (if its a steel door) and make sure it is a paintable non-silicone based caulk rated for your exterior door. application

Good luck with your project.

I also have this problem. Called Stanley who referred me to Masonite who referred me to Lowes or Home Depot. I also found the inserts online under Pease Doors but ordered them from Home Depot for MUCH less!
