My home has plaster walls (circa 1952), and the reach-in closets are very badly designed. I am planning to install a wall-mounted closet organizer, but I am concerned about the weight (of the clothes as well as the wood system) that will be carried by the wall. Should I install a drywall (or other material) backer board in front of the plaster, and then attach the organizer to it? Or how else can I stabilize it?
