rung locks for extension ladder
I have an aluminum extension ladder. Both rung locks are broken and I need new ones. Our local ladder supply said if it is a Louisville or Werner they can get parts. However, this ladder is over 30 years old and there is no ID on it. I have been to the Werner site and the Lynn site and the rung locks they show are not mine. I can take a photo of one of the locks and send it to you, or anyone you suggest, to see if I can locate replacement parts. Any ideas?
No luck finding them. All potential sources wanted ladder manufacyurere name, model number, but this was gone from the ladder. So I made two of my own. Not really like the rung locks you normally see but they work well. Will take a photo and send it to you. What is your email?
Thanks. My email: hclb@optonline.net. I think I bought the 40" ladder from Montgomery Ward about 35 years ago. No marking whatsover.
What I did was to fashion a pair of wooden blocks that sit on any rung I want to use as the bottom of the extension piece. I shaped them to fit inside the rails of the ladder which sits on the ground, then they rest against the rung which I want, and act as a stop to the bottom of the rail of the moving ladder. Will take a photo and send to you.
Here are a couple of photos. As you will see they are not very sophisticated, just something I cobbled up in desperation. However I have used them many times and they seem to hold up quite well with my 250 pounds. I designed in a slot to put in a tie down but I don't use it. My weight alone, together with the ladder edges, seem to hold them in place quite well. Note there is a left and a right one. Good luck.
Whoops, just noticed there is a limit of one photo per post. I will do a second post to show how they go on the ladder

Here is the picture of the rung locks in place. They do not attach to the ladder, just sit there when in use. When not in use, I store them seoparately.

I drove all over the place....Menards Home Depot, Lowes, nobody carries parts for extension ladders. several hundred for the ladder and on a cold day the rung lock snaps back to lock the ladder and "snap" it breaks making the ladder (at the very least) or unuseable. I found this site that carries them, but they ain't cheap...$68.00 each. I'm gonna take the old one off and make a clay mold and see it I can't melt some aluminum and make a repalcement. will post pics in about a week to 10 days... today is Sunday Jan 7th 07
Am in the same predicament.......
Old ladder, mfgr. ID gone.
One runk lock is missing (NOT safe!!).
If replacements not available, would like to make, if someone has a workable design.
I will take photo of the existing lock, if needed.
Thanks,

I am very interested in your wood blocks you made for your ladder. Would you be willing to share your design with me?? I need to make my ladder SAFE!
When I could not find any replacement rung locks I made my own, from wood. They sit astride one rung and then any upper rung just sits on them. I weigh 250 lbs and have used these many times. Photo enclosed.

I have an old Kellar, model #3532. The rung locks, accoding to Werner, are obsolete. If someone has new oldstock, part # K-112-1,please contact me. philip45acp@gmail.com .The only other option I have is to purchase new rung locks & retrofit them to my ladder, any advice will be greatly appreciated
I hate to be critical, but I just suffered a serious fall from a new ladder due to a "false lock" of the rung locks. Lesson learned- ALWAYS make sure visually that both rung locks are locked in place firmly! I am blessed to be alive with no broken bones.
People, please do not employ any of the hacks suggested in this thread. Those wooden blocks could vibrate out easily and the blocks put stress on the ladder where it is not intended. Homemade parts are not going to latch consistently.
Granted, I would scoff at this post myself if I wasn't banged up to the point that I can't get on my feet without assistance. I have always tried to use common sense, but I never was that safety conscious. If in doubt, just replace the damn ladder. It's much cheaper than a medical bill and could also prevent serious injury or death.

I am trying to identify a 20’ flat rung extension ladder I had purchased from the Finnaren & Haley Paint & Coatings in 1979 and I “think” it is a Louisville Ladder. There are no identification labels whatsoever, brand or rating. I have examined the ladder rails and cleats and can find no markings other than the numbers "46165 1" on both rung latches. See photos

Hi,
My ladder in Canada is not made anymore and I bought it with broken original rung locks that I thought I could just replace. Bought a set from Rona that looks similar. The screws fit exactly through the hold and bolted down ok but the rung lock width was not wide enough.
On all these websites they specify only the height of the rung lock but not the width. I am looking for some specs to be able to measure the rung width on my two section ladder to get the proper width and a pair of locks with springs. I am likewise screwed by having an obsolete ladder. Ladder manufacturers will not sell you a set due to liability if you don't give them a specific brand or type model of ladder.
What I need to do is make some measurements of my ladder rungs etc and reference to an already existing model of ladder that sells rung locks but I have not been able to find this yet on the internet. Any help would be appreciated. I advise anyone in the same boat to do the same, but do it carefully and make sure the rung locks before use will not fail.
Thanks,

Try Google reverse image search. Lay ladder lock on white background and take photo. On google home page click “images”. I think just below the search box is option to do an image search. When you choose that option it allows you to select an image from your phone or computer. It’s handy for all sorts of problems.
Same problem in Chicago.
Older Louisville 20’ extension ladder and need new rung hooks.
Sent pictures, ladder part # and model # to Louisville Ladder.
Their response was:
“It’s an old ladder, we no longer have parts”.
Someone, somewhere MUST make parts for these, they are perfectly good ladders and they have to be put into a landfill because of a $5.00 part?
At least they could send me the drawings and I could have them made.
Mercy, this stinks.
