What are the down sides of a geothermal heating/cooling system? And with radiant heating are there any down sides? What happens is the tubing breaks/

What type of system are you looking to install?

On the heating side it is similar to a heat pump in that it works best when it is not overly cold out as the air is not being super heated it is only being warmed.

A back up heater is often installed in the furnace.

As others have stated, a PROPERLY designed radiant system will work great, as with any GEO proper sizing is key, its very important with radiant, In my system I chose both ductwork with water-air Geos, and radiant, pex with Gypcrete over, 2X2s were embedded in oak floor areas, I will put in a water-water unit when funds permit, (just finished new house) duct work is nice for indoor air quality: UV lamp, Electronic air filter, Steam humidifier, & energy recovery ventilator, fresh air, and if you need it AC.

I guess when your in the biz you have to put in the ultimate system to demo for your customers.
mine love it until they see the price tag....
