The house I own was built in 1972. The wiring system installed inside the walls is 1/2 flex cable with two 12 gauge wires, no ground wire. The flex cable itself is used as the ground. My question: they installed 15A-125v duplex outlet devices. Can I change these to 20A-125v devices? I already confirmed that the breaker on my service panel is a 20 amp breaker. My house is relatively small so there are not any very long wire runs.

The reason this came up at all is I am changing the outlets from ivory to white.

Thanks!
Brenda

You can change them to 20 amp devices but it is not required. 15 amp receptacles are fine aon a 20 amp circuit.
