The bathroom fan is an old Nutone and does not work. I can't seems to find a replace. What are some suggestion to replace the fan?

Buy a new one that is at least as big or bigger than the old one so that you will be enlarging the hole in the ceiling instead of trying to repair it. As long as you have access from above, this should be a fairly easy project.

Frequently, the problem is the motor. You can buy just the motor and fan cage separately for many models of bath fans. I suggest you remove just that part (usually 2 nuts) and take it to your big box home improvement store to find a replacement. It's much easier to replace, and cheaper.
