Can anyone inform me on laminate wood floors that have been applied to concrete slabs? Techniques, do's and dont's, advice?

I had a Condo that was on concrete slab. All we did was put a vapor barrier down and then I installed Pergo flooring. There have been no problems at all.

better hope the concrete is nice and level, or could be nightmare.

this is a loaded one. do you plan to float it, use a good underlayment foam with a vapor barrier. they sell self levelers that are easy to apply if your slab is wavy. if you are going to glue it down use Sika available at Lowes with a sealer. good luck

I am installing Quick Step Eligna laminate flooring on concrete (6th floor condo). The concrete has a 1.5" difference between the highest lowest point in the room.

For sound reduction, the condo management association requires cork as an underlayment.

The professional who quoted the installation said he would layer foam underlayment until the floor was level. I e-mailed Quick Step and they said NOT to do that.

So my question has a few parts and Is this the correct procedure:

1. Paint the floor with prep for cement

2. When prep is tacky pour self-leveling cement to level the floor (1/4" at a time?)

3. Allow 1 week for moisture to evaporate? (How long between pouring each layer?)

4. Glue down vapor barrier film (Glue?)

5. Glue down cork (Does this go above or below the vapor barrier film?)

6. Lay down floor according to directions (This seems like the easy part)

Thanks so much for any help.

Check out Bostick. They have a system Leveler, Moisture Vapor protection that would save you some steps. Cork? Allock should have a foam underlayment they recommend. Sound solution or Underlayment from MP Global should work.
