I am looking for heaated flooring for ceramic tile. I have looked at SunTouch and NuHeat, but just came across a few others. Looking for reasonable price and, most important, reliable. Suggestions?

The two you mentioned are reputable and make a good product. They will assist you with a layout diagram based on your room measurements and stationary items in the room like cabinets and toilets and such. Is this going over a cement slab or wood subfloor?

It will go over backerboard. I was leaning toward NuHeat, but they are the most expensive. Do you know of other reputable that are options.

The type that Suntouch and NuHeat make are pretty generic and will be about the same price as other makers like Watts Radiant www.wattsradiant.com and Thermosoft www.thermosoft.com The one I like best is Step Warmfloor at www.warmfloor.com Its a different concept but also out of the price range you are looking to spend.

When going over backerboard (a good thing) I like to use 1/4" Hardibacker under the wires and around the perimeter of the room I use 1/2" Hardibacker. This height differential allows the wires to be recessed a little so they can be covered with a layer of Self Leveling Cement, with the thicker board edge acting as a dam to keep it from running to places it doesn't need to go. Once that dries set the ceramic tile with a modified thinset.

Most floor warming unit warranties require that an electrician take several Ohm readings during the install to make sure no wires break or get frayed. One when it comes out of the box, one when it gets installed to the floor and one when it gets covered with tile. Dont turn it on for two weeks so the thinset can properly cure.
