I have a problem getting a continuous supply of hot water. The water will be extremely hot and then start turning cold. It will then begin to get hot again. This usually continuous all the time I am drawing water.

When I first moved in to this house the water seemed to be fine but within the last few months this problem has been occuring.

Do these heaters need to be drained a little every now and then?

These hot and cold showers are getting to me. Need some good advice.

Is this gas or electric? SOund like one of two problems, first would be a bad thermostat, second would be scaling. Depending on your water condition, these do need to be descaled occsionally. On gas units, you can disassemble the coil and then fill the coil with vinegar to disolve the scaling, then flush and reassemble it.

The thermostat can also be causing this, especially if it is electric. There is also an overheat protection circuit at the top of gas units. If the venting is blocked in any way this can trip and shut off gas flow, but in your case it doesnt sound like this since you have to manually reset it.
