I just bought a 41 year old house. I am changing all the old 15 amp receptacles with new 15 amp receptacles. I noticed that the wiring is 12 gauge and the circuit breakers to those 15 amp receptacles are all 20 amp breakers.

1. Because those receptacles are of 15 amps, should I also change the circuit breakers from 20 amps to 15 amp breakers?

2. If yes, can I leave the wires alone at 12 gauge instead of changing them out to 14 gauge?

Leave everything alone, it is fine and correct. Just replace the receptacles like you were going to do in the first place.
