I would like to replace the outlets over my kitchen counter with GFCI outlets. The existing outlets are split (the tab on the hot side is broken and one hot is connected to the top and one to the bottom). How do I wire a GFCI outlet when I replace them?

Apparently your receptacles are wired using a three wire. Therefore giving you 2 circuits at the receptacle. The solution would be to use one of the hot wires at the GFCI and to wirenut the second hot wire at the box. Alternate the circuit to the GFCI as you install them along the wall. Good luck!
