I have two questions: 1) Can you rate these four a/c brands (based on quality not efficiency or sound level). York, Lennox, Carrier and Coleman. (price is not much of a concern). 2) I have read on this forum that installation is just as important as the type of unit. How can I tell if the contractor is going to do a proper job (or what do I ask the installer on the phone about his installation procedures)?

Thanks for any advice…….

Carrier, Lennox, York, Coleman...Basically ask the contractor or even better yet, look at some of his work. This will tell all as far as quality of the job and how it looks.

Lennox, Carrier, York, Coleman. Be sure to get a heat load calculation done to make sure equipment matches your home heating and cooling loads. Most good contractors will do this automatically as part of their routine. Ask for references, and then check them. swany
