have an outdoor (inside a gazebo) hot tub. We have never had any problems with it. This morning the hot tub was working fine. This evening it was off. I checked the circuit breaker and it was tripped. I did reset it and it immediately trips again. The breaker is dedicated strickly to the hot tub. The box also contains breakers for the pool filter, and outdoor lighting, which all work fine. The hot tub is the only one that keeps tripping. Any ideas?

1. Defective breaker I assume it is a GFCI breaker? (replace with a know working breaker. FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY a non-gfi breaker may be used. If this breaker also trips, the problem is in the wiring or hot tub. DO NOT LEAVE the non-GFI breaker in the circuit when using the hot tub)
2. Defect in wiring. A critter bit into the line or a mouse made a house in the hot tub. (Visible inspection. Repair replace as necessary)
3. Defect in hot tub motor or heater. (Contact hot tub repair person)
If you are uncomfortable checking any of these items call a licensed electrician.

If you have some experience working with electricity, try disconnecting the wires at the hot tub, including the neutral (white) and cap them off. Turn on the breaker, if it does not trip, the problem is in the tub & you should call in someone qualified to repair a hot tub.
If the breaker trips, disconnect all the wires from the load side of the breaker & reset the breaker. If it trips, it is defective. If it holds, the problem is in the wire from the breaker to the tub. You could check all junction boxes for pinched wires or moisture. If that does not show the cause of the trouble, I'd recommend calling in an electrician since it could be difficult for you to find the cause of the problem.
