I was having problems with a slow draining bathroom sink and decided to take out and clean the popup. Well, the pipes were so old when I attempted to unscrew the retaining nut to take off the pivot rod it broke off. I have the replacement Pop-up drain assembly, but now am having problems disconnecting the tailpiece from the flange because the pipes are very old. When I try to unscrew the tailpiece the whole assembly turns. Can anyone offer suggestions? I am about ready to get a pipe saw and saw it off.
Thank you.

That's a perfectly good solution to cut the old tailpiece from the sink...........especialy if every thing is rotten.........

If the sink flange is still OK......First try tightening the flange and nut.....And then while holding the nut use a screwdriver in the broken popup hole....... unscrew those fine-threads on the tailpiece
