Can I go from a 14/2 gage wire to a 12/2 and back to a 14/2 with out problems. I finished my whole basement a few years ago with 14/2 gage wire. I decided to add two new outlets. In doing so I splice in 12/2 wire in the middle (not thinking). Will thid cause a problem?

Yes, you can use larger wire for part of the run.

Just remember that you have to keep at a 15 amp circuit.

The problem is that someone later comes a long and see the #12 and thinks that it is can be a 20 amp circuit and changes the breaker.

Thus it is though of as poor practice.

But sometimes it is done on purpose, such as long runs for voltage drop.

Thanks for you information. Because of housing price here I don't think I'll move until my kids put me in a nursing home. I'll double check the amps at the braker.
