My yard is tall fescue and my neighbor has zoysiagrass. What is the most effective barrier to keep the zoysiagrass from creeping into my yard? In the fall I killed a five foot wide section on my year (and a few inches into my neighbor’s yard-with his permission) and re-seeded my yard with fescue. We considered a brick paver or stone sidewalk with gravel base but we want other options. Zoysiagrass spreads both above ground (hence the sidewalk idea) and below ground. Will the sidewalk idea work for the above ground spread and if not, what will? Also, I am considering inserting a double layer of roofing type tin to help prevent or slow the below ground spread. Will this help? I am in Northern Virginia so the zoysiagrass goes dormant in the winter.

Thanks in advance for any insight.
