Charlie,
I just purchased a used planer like this, and did not get the manual. If you get a positive response to this, I would appreciate a copy of the manual, either as an attachment, or however you could provide it.

Do you know how old the planer is? I had assumed when I bought it that the manual was available from Sears, but since it isn't, I wonder if it may be quite old.
Thank you for your help!

Does anyone have any information on sharpening or replacing blades on the 4.25 Craftsman Jointer?
The adjustment knob at the rear will not work for some reason. Nice little jointer, but the blades need a sharpen, or replacement. Veritas makes a jointer blade sharpener I saw online.
Also, I need a manual, sent one email out tonight.
Keep making sawdust!

Picked one of these (149.236223) up, but no manual. It just needs a little TLC. What is the general opinion (pros/cons) of this tool? I would greatly appreciate it if someone would email me a manual for it.

http://www.owwm.com/home.aspx Try this site and surf around. Like a detective. Use your model no. to hunt down the company and year your Craftsman was made. Craftsman had quite a few companies make their stuff. You may have to settle for a owners manual that is close but not exactly like your machine. I found enough info on a Craftsman pre WW2 4 1/8" jointer to tear it apart and restore it. I took a chance on and won it in an auction for 6 bucks, completely covered in rust but intact. Its built like a tank and works GREAT now. It also looks very cool I think. Mine was made by King-Sealy in 1939. Good luck, Bill.

The blades aren't available from Sears, nor anywhere else I can find. Harbor Freight might have had something that might work a few years ago, but not anymore. And they don't look like they'd be easy to sharpen. So if anyone has a source please post, otherwise my tool is worthless.
The blades are the same as used on a name brand jointer that I can't remember at this moment. I'll post it if I remember, but I know you'll have no problem getting them. I was going to replace mine so I found out quite a while back what it would take but I decided I would have them sharpened instead. Sorry, not much help.

I think Grizzly tools has blades that will
fit, but I haven't ordered them yet. AMT made their jointer as well.

I was actually in a Sears store over the past summer, looking at some of their power tools. They do carry a 4 1/8 inch planer and the replacement blades look identical to the ones for this model. I compared my old blade to the ones still in the package and I can't tell the difference. I didn't buy them because I'm not sure if I need to replace them yet. I beleive they were around $12.00. If you search for them online, the picture might show the blade with 4 holes. The actual blades that I found do only have 3. Matter of fact, here's the link: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00922993000P?keyword=4+1/8+inch+jointer
Also, I am still in need of the manual if anyone happens to run across one. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, but the blades you speak of don't look anything like the blades on model 149.236222, which are big honkin' things with a built-in curve to them, not flat blades like most modern jointers.
In any case, this jointer is going in my next yard sale. Maybe I can get back the $5 I paid for it (in a yard sale a couple of years ago).

I'd sure appreciate if someone could send me manual for that planer.

If you look closer you might find that the blades are between those curved parts. - I just got one at yard sale and thought that was the blades at first but thought they looked too odd. I turned the thing a bit and saw where the blades are screwed on.

I have 149.236221 sitting in my garage. The knives are dinged up badly (it was salvaged). I don't know if the Grizzly blades fit, but I just went to Harbor Freight and they have a 4 1/8" jointer there with item# 65673. I borrowed one of the stores allen wrench sets and took of the jointer's knives off... a perfect match (I had one of my 149.236221 knives with me). Same length, same hole pattern for the blade. There are actually two extra slot holes in these HF knives that are used for alignment purposes (see part# 61 in the manual linked below(. The knife 'sits' on the head of that allen screw as you put on the blade clamp. I like that setup actually better than the Craftsman. However, that's about all that looks better... flimsy fence. Infeed and outfeed tables look ok, but overall the machine is much lighter weight than the craftsman.
Anyway, the knives are part #58 (bottom two pages) in the HF manual located here:
http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals/65000-65999/65673.pdf
You can't order it online, I asked the HF parts people at 800-444-3353. They come as a pair (IIRC) and they are $13.63. Oh, and these blades are edged on both sides... when one side gets dull or dinged, you can flip it around and use the other one.
BTW, you CAN get order the manual from Sears for around $3 and change.
Hope that helps!
Paul

I just called the Harbor Freight phone # and the blades are special order: 6 to 8 weeks delivery time. IF they have them in the warehouse they will ship them sooner but there's no guarantee.
I'm wondering if these might work?

The blades seem to be about 4 1/8" long, 1/16" thick, 11/16 wide (as-is), single bladed (again, as-is, I don't know the original condition), with three elongated slots approx 1 11/16" on center and 17/64" wide. I haven't mic'd the knife, these are just rough measurements. I have attached a pic.

HF is discontinuing this and the blades are no longer available. Have to wait for the next cheap skinny blade jointer.
Charlie,

For all who are still looking for blades for this unit......go to Sears. I just purchased 3 sets from my local store. They are marketed under p/n 922993 4 1/8 jointer blades. These are a perfect match to the ones in my machine...same length, thickness, width and hole pattern. And they work perfectly.Apparently made for Sear latest model.
Strange when calling Sears parts, they don't know that this item will fit the older jointers.
Hope this helps.

A manual for jointer 149.236221 is available from sears for $3.11 plus shipping: www.searspartsdirect.com.
After some intensive research and obtaining this manual from ebay......the picture is the same as the 149.236223.
Comparing the parts breakdown on the sears web site with the 149.236223, the only difference appears to be a different numbering system for the parts.
Hope this helps all who are still seeking a manual for the 149.236223.

Just my 2 cents worth... it's ridiculous that Sears doesn't have this manual / parts list online free like most manufacturers of power tools... even for very, very old and obsolete equipment. This is another example of why Sears is likely to go out of business during this decade. They used to be tops in tools... I try to avoid them now.
could someone send a copy of the sears jointer planer 4 1/8 owners maual no. 149.236223? I shure would apreceate it.

I have a Sears Jointer/Planer model# 149.236221 and contacted Sears to be informed that they do NOT carry replacement blades for that Jointer/Planer. I did some checking and have ordered and received the exact blades for that Jointer/Planer from Sears. They think that they do not have the blades but they do under the following info from my Sears order:
Item Number 00921791000
BLADES.21762.REPLACE
Cost = $14.24

Hi everyone,
My neighbor just gave me the planar with the instructional manual. I will be willing to scan it and send it to anyone if they can just get me blades. I saw the info from the previous posts, sears.com isn't pulling up anything. I guess I have to call them?
